Should You Wear Something Girly, Edgy, Or Both?

Girly, pink (or blush) tops get me every time!  Ripped jeans? Bring them on too.  I love combining the elements of something really feminine with a balance of some edgier distressed jeans.   The combination of this flowy, lace top and the dark, ripped jeans can be dressed down with some booties for day and dressed up a bit with some black strappy heels for night out.

This top and jeans came from American Eagle.  In the past, I have not been a huge fan of their jeans but am loving their newer jeggings.  The fit is excellent and they tend to hold their shape and not stretch out or get baggy after wearing them for a few hours like some other brands tend to.  This makes me happy since they are prices are affordable too!

Joules Wellies Review

joules-3

joules-2

It’s been a season of ankle boots for me.  So much so that my tall boots haven’t even made it out of storage.  The past few days have been rainy and it was the perfect opportunity to break out my first pair of tall boots, but not the expected type.  Anyone who knows me also knows how I love my heels and wedges (instant short girl fix).  I broke my own rule this past weekend by wearing some wellies and I intend to pull them on every time it rains in the future!

There may have been a moment at my three year old’s soccer game earlier this fall that I spotted another mom in a pair of shiny, bright red Hunter boots.  It was love at first sight.  A quick online search for my future boots came to a quick halt.  $150 for a pair of boots I would only wear a few times a year?  Ouch!

Along came the Nordstrom sale… and a new love entered my life.  Joules Wellies!  So many colors and cute patterns.  The reviews were all positive, so I gave them a try.  For only around $40 on sale and free shipping (also free shipping back if I didn’t love them), it was a no brainer.

My package arrived a few days later.  I tore it open to find my first pair of wellies (as an adult) wrapped in their own pretty boot box.  Well played, Joules.  I might want another pair just becuase of the cute box.  They fit perfectly and even though they are not a heel or wedge, I didn’t even feel awkward walking in them since they are not incredibly flat or awkward feeling.  My Joules Wellies review and opinion?  Get them!  If you ever see them in a solid red color… let me know right away!

Cut Out Sweaters

The summer cold and off the shoulder trend has transitioned to our cozy winter sweaters with cut out details.  The cut out shoulders, back detailing, or front lacing are cute but still covered up and classy.  With all of the Black Friday and now Cyber Monday deals happening all over the web, now is the time to snag some for gifts and, of course, a few for yourself!

This cross back style is my favorite sweater currently in my closet.  The color worked perfectly for our black and white family Thanksgiving photo session.  It even survived our 8 hour road trip without wrinkling packed away in a suitcase. Bonus!

These white jeans were a great find for the summer, so I decided to pair them with a sweater to transition to the colder months.  I am seeing others wear their white jeans with bulky sweaters or layered with long cardigans.  Safety in numbers, so I thought I would give the look a try too.  My jeans came from the Buckle and are sold out.  I’m actually wishing I had a pair with the distressed knees like some of the options below.  The Rag & Bone jeans were $195 and are on sale for under $59 in limited sizes!  Tempted.

Mommy and Me Monday: Toddler Outfit

mommy-me-2

mommy-me-3

While playing outside this morning, I had the idea of a Mommy and Me Monday post.  This is something I hope to continue in the future.  Mostly because I have spent time looking for similar posts in search of toddler boy outfit ideas for my little guy.  We all know that girl’s clothes offer way cuter options and it leaves the boy moms in the dust.  With my youngest son, I have fallen in love with the options at Target.  The clothes are stylish, but still practical for a climbing, bike riding, dirt playing little boy.

Some of my favorite brands for little boys include Osh Kosh (which Target carries), Gymboree, Crazy 8, Nike, and more recently Cat and Jack for Target.  They all carry toddler outfit sizes.  All of these brands are cute and boy tested for durability.  Notice I mentioned that I had this post idea in the morning when these photos were taken… he was covered in Cheez-Its and dirt by afternoon.

Did you see that cool bike?  This Strider balance bike was a gift from Santa when B was 1-1/2.  He’s now almost 3-1/2 and my hubby and I have to jog to keep up during our evening walks! It is really amazing to see how well our little guy can ride his bike! He’s fast, he can balance, turn, and stop – all of this without pedals. This bike transitions toddler from a balance bike to a regular bike without training wheels.  Pretty awesome and our adventurous, wild boy loves it!  Any moms with older kiddos have any input about the transition?

I would love to hear from other moms with toddler boys.  Do you struggle to find cute outfits for your little boy that also go with the flow of the adventure filled days?  Have you found a brand you love?  I want to hear about it!

Mixing Patterns: Stripes and Plaid

Layers, anyone?  We went from almost 8o and sunny yesterday to a windy, grab the nearest scarf and jacket day today.  What is a girl supposed to do but grab everything in her closet and try to layer it into something cute.

I present to you the collision of stripes, plaid, faux leather leggings, and camel fitted jacket day.  It felt good.  Maybe because it was my first real opportunity to really layer up for fall. Stripes and plaid – I am seeing it everywhere and loving it.  Scarves and boots are actually my favorite part of transitioning my wardrobe to fall.  This scarf has been my absolute favorite this season.

On another note… I’m really trying to figure out the photos for blogging formula.  Hours of reading, watching YouTube, and following other blogs conclude that you should never really look directly at the camera.  My husband’s analysis was summed up with comments such as, “Why do you look so sad?” Followed with, “It’s because you were waiting for me to come home, wasn’t it?” Later followed with, “I bet it’s because the Amazon delivery was late.”  Welcome to my life!

Weekend Getaway: Crystal Bridges Bentonville

Crystal Bridges Bentonville Outfit Photo Shoot

Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away!  Christmas… just a few weeks later! This means things will be hectic in our house over the next month and a half. Decorating, family events, get togethers with friends, and holiday travel. Total chaos, but tons of great memories with those we love.

Before this craziness begins, my husband and I snuck in a little getaway to Crystal Bridges Bentonville (Arkansas) this weekend. Just the two of us. We wanted a quick and easy drive and found this little gem located only a couple of hours away from home. It was a departure from our typical options of St. Louis or Kansas City.

A must see in Bentonville is Crystal Bridges. It’s an art museum with a Frank Lloyd Wright home on the property – very cool. Even though we saw a Picasso and a fairly creepy and eerily lifelike 3D printing of a man, the outdoor art walk was my favorite! A little stroll surrounded with fall colors, sculptures, and other unique pieces of art was a highlight of the getaway. I’m still not really sure where the name Crystal Bridges came from – we did not see a single bridge of crystal – but a stunning place anyhow. Even if the name is deceiving.

Do you like to try new locations for weekend getaways or stick with the places you know and love?  Either way…  if you have time to sneak away with someone close to you before the holidays, do it!
